Dentistry

Dental care is extremely important to your horses health and performance. Here are a few signs your horse may show when in need of a dental:

  • Weight loss
  • Poor performance
  • Head shaking
  • Increased salivation
  • Nasal discharge
  • Foul odor from the mouth and/or nose

When you call us at PCAH for a dental examination, one of our veterinarians will conduct an examination of your horse. Then your horse will be sedated (standing sedation). A speculum will be placed in your horse’s mouth so that the dental arcade can be visualized so we can determine possible problems. Sharp points and malocclusions, which can affect performance and digestion, will be addressed. We do have power tools to grind down sharp points.
