As some of you already know, there have been recent reports of various dogs being affected by the H3N2 strain of the canine influenza virus. This is a different strain than the one we saw in 2015 which was the H3N8 strain. In the face of the outbreak in 2015, we decided to initiate a vaccination protocol to protect dogs in our practice that were at risk. Since then we have been diligent in making sure our clients are well informed and their dogs protected by vaccinating against the H3N8 virus. In light of the most recent outbreaks with the newest strain we will now be modifying our vaccination protocol to include the canine influenza H3N2. Please contact our office if you have questions about your pet’s needs for vaccination against these strains of the canine influenza.
